Could Frankel race on after Ascot? With Prince
Khalid Abdullah delaying his decision on whether the great Frankel will retire after the Qipco Champions Stakes tomorrow, speculation is growing that his sporting owner may allow Frankel to race again.
It is still long odds-on that
Ascot will be the final time we all see Frankel in racing action, but it would be a wonderful boost to racing’s profile if his career was to be extended.
Named after a great
American trainer who was known for not shirking a challenge, William Hill make it 4/1 that we see Frankel on the track again in 2012 after his Ascot run, and 7/1 that he races on in 2013.
Richard Thomas, spokesman for William Hill, Britain’s biggest bookmaker, said, “We have experienced three tremendous seasons watching Frankel set new standards on the track, and it would be a real bonus if connections opted to keep Frankel in training after Ascot. Whilst it is highly unlikely, the fact remains that the owner has never said that Ascot would be the end of the road.”
